From the time I started this blog, Salma Hayek is one of those women who were automatically on my list of women to write about. It's taken me some time to get to her; yes I know. But you see there are so many beautiful sexy blog-worthy women and so little time. One other reason is that I've had a hard time finding pictures of her that I deem worthy. Don't blame me for being particular. After all, I've got to put out my best right? I wouldn't have it any other way.
Suffice it to say, I'm still not altogether satisfied with what I've got but I must confess that I could not put off publishing this Mexican Bombshell any longer. I just couldn't.
To say what I would like to say about her poses a bit of a problem as well in that there are only so many ways to describe her. Of course there's always the route to laying out the blog by body parts *smiles*. That didn't quite come out how I intended it.
What I was simply trying to say was that I could concentrate on her alluring sexy eyes. Or on her lovely breasts. Or I could point out the perfect curve of her hips; the flawless beauty of her face; the sexy chunk in her trunk; her smooth rich silky hair, you know, stuff like that.
Then again I could take it from an angle of the fiery passion that excites me so much. And then there are other traits I could bring to the fore. Her awesome sense of fashion for one thing. Salma hardly (if ever) has a fashion flop incident. I love her sense of style. The way she dresses takes you right to the very edge of 'oh yeah baby, yeah' but just enough to leave you wanting to go a bit further. She dresses with impeccable taste. Just the right blend of tease you, tempt you but only so much because I'm a lady. Hayek messes with the senses in so many ways. InStyle named her the most stylish celebrity in 2003 and Eonline.com ranked her the best dressed celebrity.
Then there's the angle of her career, personal life, early life; so many vantage points. I might as well just delve into it and see where it goes. Salma Hayek Jiménez turned 42 years old yesterday (Sept 2). HAPPY BELATED Salma! And because I missed a day of blogging on Monday, that's why this isn't being published on that given day. Life's like that sometimes.
She was born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico to Diana Jiménez, an opera singer and talent scout and Sami Hayek, an oil company executive. Hayek was destined for the Olympics to compete as a gymnast but her father prevented this from happening. She dropped out of college to pursue a career in acting. She is an actress, director and television and film director and has more than 30 films to her credit.
In 1989 at the age of 23 she earned lead role in a Mexican TV series Teresa and quickly became a household name. In 1994 she starred in El Callejón de los Milagros (Miracle Alley). A film which holds the record in Mexican cinema for winning the most awards. She had a particularly hard time learning English because she's dsylexic. Besides Spanish, she's fluent in Arabic and Portugese. Salma gave birth to her first child, a daughter named Valentina Paloma Pinault on Friday September 21 2007. It is reported that she and the baby's father Francois-Henri Pinault recently called off their engagement.
Her breakthrough role outside of Mexico was her role in Desparado (1995) opposite Antonio Banderas. She was cast for the role of Elena Montero/Elena Murrieta in The Mask of Zorro however she relinquished the role out of loyalty to director Robert Rodriguez who gave her the opportunity to star in Desparado.
She formed her production company, Ventanarosa in 2000. Since then she has co-produced and starred in Frida which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. This made Hayek the first Mexican actress to have been nominated for an Academy Award. Since then two fellow Mexican actresses have earned such a nomination. The film went on to win two Oscars. She is also the second of four Latinas to achieve a Best Actress Oscar nomination. In 2003, she won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Director for The Maldonado Miracle. She is executive producer of the ever popular TV show Ugly Betty.
Salma voices Foxy in Beverly Hills Chihuahua set for release on October 3 of this year. Fellow actress Drew Barrymore, Piper Perabo and Jamie Lee Curtis have also done voices for other characters in this movie. Keep Coming Back to be directed by William H. Macy is currently in production. Her other two movies Cirque du Freak (Circus of Freaks) is currently in post-production and La Banda in pre-production phase are set to be released some time time next year.
Hayek has built up a reputation of being one of the most dazzling leading actresses in Hollywood and she's got the awards to prove it. She's got seven Awards to her credit and and additional twenty-one nominations. In October 2001 she was Glamour magazine named her Woman of the Year. In 2003 she was the recipient of the Producers Guild of America's Celebration of Diversity Award. In February 2006 she received the Artist of the Year Award from Harvard University.
Salma is an advocate for awareness of violence against women and discrimination against immigrants. She has donated $25,000 to a Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, shelter for battered women and another $50,000 to Monterrey based anti-domestic violence groups. She is also the spokesperson for the Pampers/UNICEF partnership in the U.S. and Canada called: 1 Pack = 1 Vaccine to help raise awareness of this program to eliminate the spread of life-threatening maternal and neonatal tetanus. From 2 May 2005 to 5 May 2005 she visited Guatemala as ambassador to Youth/AIDS to promote the prevention of the disease along with her close friend Ashley Judd. (I luv these pics)
