Emily Mallory Procter is a native of Raleigh, N.C. who attended East Carolina University. She studied journalism and dance at East Carolina University and worked as the weather anchor at WNCT-TV the Greenville CBS affiliate. After grauation, she moved to LA to pursue her acting career.
She is best known for her Leading female role as Calleigh Duquesne (pronounced Ducaine) in CSI: Miami and her recurring role in The West Wing where she portrayed the role of Republican attorney Ainsley Hayes.
She has made appearances in Friends and Just Shoot Me and a starred opposite David Schwimmer and Chris Cooper in Breast Men. In 2006 she starred with Martin Lawrence in Big Momma's House 2 [I enjoyed the scene where she was doing those dance moves with Big Momma :)]
Her character on CSI Miami is based on a southern woman with a strong, proud center who grew up in the home of her alcoholic father. Calleigh was forced to take on an adult role when just a child because of this. She had to give support to her numb, withdrawn mother, but also picked up the pieces that her father continually left behind. She is perputually riven to succeed, sometimes at all costs and was valedictorian of her high school class.
Calleigh walked a beat for the New Orleans Police Department, and her impressive knowledge of firearms gained her a reputation as the "bullet girl." Word of her talents traveled to Miami, where Horatio Caine was in need of a ballistics expert. Calleigh has proven that talent and beauty are a potent combination. Though she often uses her charm to break down barriers, Calleigh always relies on her calm rationale to get to the heart of a crime. In the end, all that matters is that justice is served.
I love her character on the show and commend the writers and the network for giving a woman a role such as this which requires intelligence, strength, grit and lots of times balls to carry out her function on a day-to-day basis. Emily embodies the character and gets the viewer caught up in the struggles, frustrations and ultimate triumphs in the pursuit of justice.
She's second in command when Horatio has to be away and has garnered profound respect from her colleagues and peers. I think my most favorite line of the series thus far was when Horatio told someone, "You do not mess with Calleigh Duquesne."
She's no-nonsense, by-the-book and relentless in her quest to find the truth. Yet, her vulnerabilities are mixed in with it all which creates the perfect blend of a credible character. I like characters that one can relate to; hate ones that aim for the ideal and unrealistic.
