Hottie Friday: Nelly Furtado

It's been a little while since a hottie has graced the pages of Slym Pickings and for this I beg your forgiveness; I've been busy. I don't think I will get a lot of objections (if any) that Canadian singer of Portuguese descent, Nelly Kim Furtado deserves a rightful place on this list.

Does she have what it takes to be here? You bet your ass! Can she hold her own in a room filled with other hotties? You bet your ass! Can this smooth, sexy, attractive and seductive temptress cause heads to turn, draws to drop and tongues to hang out? You bet your ass she can and does!

So do I need to make any further arguments to build my case as to why I have chosen Nelly, why she deserves to be here, why she makes me weak in the knees and my heart beat out of my chest or thoughts of her keep me up at night she has this effect on so many?

Men and women alike know that Nelly Furtado's got it going on. Old and young know it too. Furtado is hot! Any hot list of any kind that does not include Furtado is in need of some serious revamping; staff need to be fired; some major job shuffling needs to take place as well as making appointments for head and eye examinations.

Will I quit my pent up spewing and get on with this post? How dare you? Why I ought to... If she is deserving of all the accolades I pile upon her, then she will have it! Don't anyone try to cut me off! Besides, you know you feel the same darn way so don't try to hide it. Go ahead, it's ok to admit it, it's ok to drool and swoon and wish and dream and hope.

Nelly Kim Furtado is not only a singer. She's a songwriter, record producer and occasional actress who was born in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada and resides in Toronto, Canada. She rose to prominence back in 2000 with the release of her debut album Whoa Nelly! The album yielded her breakthrough Grammy Award winning hit I'm Like A Bird another single that gained international acclaim was Turn Off The Light. The album featured a variety of musical styles and it was evident that Furtado was in an experimental phase.

Her career was rather low-keyed after the debut album release and in this time she became a mother. During the period 2003 - 2005 very little was heard from her internationally despite the release of another album, Folklore in 2003.

It wasn't until the release of her third album, Loose in June of 2006 that Nelly once again became a household name. The album was mainly produced by Timbaland and took on a more hip hop, R&B and Disco type sound. The album has been described as having a youthful vibe and Furtado attributed this to her then 2 year old daughter, Nevis who was born on September 20, 2003 in Toronto.

Loose produced a string of hit singles for the artist. The most successful of these being Promiscuous (her first #1 hit in the US), Maneater (her first #1 hit in the UK), All Good Things (Come to an End) (her most successful hit in Europe) and Say It Right (her most successful hit worldwide to date and second #1 hit in the US).

Loose is Furtado's most successful album to date and has reached #1 in Canada, the United States and several other countries worldwide. It has been reported that Furtado is currently working on two new albums: one in Spanish and the other in Portuguese.

She has to her credit 1 Grammy Award, 1 BRIT Award, 5 Juno Awards and 1 MTV Europe Music Award and has made 5 television roles including appearances in a Portuguese Soap Opera, American Soap Opera, CSI: NY and Punk'd.

It's the end of another work week *yes!*. I hope the hotness of Nelly Furtado helps one and all to have a sizzling and enjoyable weekend. Go Nelly!
