Brandy is back. She's sounding good. She's looking great. She's on the verge of releasing her fifth studio album Human on line and in stores on November 11. I am a fan of Brandy's music. I own her first two albums which remain my favorite of her albums thus far. By far my absolute favorite is her second album Never Say Never (1998).
With tracks like The Boy is Mine, Almost Doesn't Count, Top Of The World, Have You Ever, One Voice, Tomorrow and I Do It For You (Everything I Do) there was just no contest. Her debut album Brandy (1994) provided some nice hip hop based tracks that have a lasting impression as well. Take for example Movin' On, Baby and Sunny Day. And then there were the ballads Give Me You and Broken Hearted.
Brandy gave her her first international top 10 entry, her first number one hit on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart (stayed in the stop for four weeks) and yielded another two top 10 hits. The album eventually sold over four million copies domestically.
Never Say Never (her most successful album to date) established the young singer as one of the most successful R&B vocalist of the mid to late 1990s. Her duet with Monica The Boy Is Mine gave Brandy her first Grammy Award win. She was more involved on this album and wrote and produced six of the songs. The album yielded her first number one hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and spent a record thirteen weeks in that position. The album sold over fourteen million copies worldwide.
Her third and fourth albums Full Moon and Afrodisiac (produced by Timbaland) failed to mirror the success of her first two albums. However, Human promises to re-establish her position in the Hip Hop/R&B world. Her first single off the album Right Here (Departed) was released on her official website on August 13. Shortly thereafter she released a video to support the audio release.
She is looking and sounding real good in the video. It this is an indication of what is to come, then count me in. From the video, one can tell that she has reached another level in her life. Not the she wasn't confident before, but there's just an air about her in the video and a bit of 'attitude' going on which I quite like.
She works hard, she's dedicated and she has grown. Norwood has worked with some of the biggest names in the biz (Chaka Khan, Gladys Knight, Toni Braxton). She successfully made a smooth transition into the TV/movie business - Thea (1993 - 1994), Moesha (1996 - 2001), Cinderella (1997), I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998) and One on One.
She has built up/earned quite a reputation in the business and is deserving of every award/accolade that has been bestowed upon her. The RIAA ranks Norwood as one of the best-selling female artists in American music history, having sold over 10.5 million copies of her four studio albums in the United States and over 25 million albums worldwide, to date.
Additionally, she has won over 100 awards as a recording artist. quote Her roles in the 1997 version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella and Double Platinum remain two of television's highest rated programs.
Brandy Rayana Norwood is a Mississippi born R&B and pop singer-songwriter, record producer, fashion model, actress and film producer. She comes from a family of musical talent. Her father Willie Norwood is a former R&B singer, her brother Ray J is a singer and actor, blues singer Bo Diddley is her cousin as well as rapper Snoop Dogg.
She is the mother of Sy'rai Iman Smith who was born on June 16, 2002. She is said to be currently working on a sitcom for The CW which has not yet been titled. It has been reported the the series is being written by Mara Brock Akil who also wrote Girlfriends and The Game.
